About Our President

mortgagestogo.ca president Paul Izzard has been involved with real estate and the stock market over the past three decades. He’s also been the owner of several successful corporations. Although his focus is mortgages, he reads countless financial reports daily in order to stay on top of world-wide economic affairs. This enables him to provide the best possible advice to his clients.

How We Got Started

Paul decided to start his own mortgage business after some bad experiences that he had while obtaining his own mortgage. In particular, he noticed a number of problems within the mortgage industry that he wanted to solve:

• Banks only promote their own products
• Bank employees often have limited knowledge
• Some mortgage brokers only deal with the most credit worthy customer
• Other mortgage brokers only deal with people with income and credit issues
• Many mortgage brokers are bullies and take advantage of people in trouble

We Are Not a Franchise

This is because Paul believes that franchising leads to a loss of control, which is too great a risk when providing an important financial document and obligation such as a mortgage. Paul also believes that franchisors are only interested in expanding their brand, rather than doing what’s best for their clients.

Many times these \’brands\’ don’t actually sell real estate and broker mortgages. They are only in the business of selling or renting their name to anyone that can pay. The \’brand\’ ends up with a bunch of mom and pop businesses that give the consumer the impression that they are dealing with a big corporation. In reality the consumer could be dealing with an inexperienced individual who just bought the \’brand\’ name. In fact, a strong established brokerage is highly unlikely to waste money buying a \’brand\’.

Sadly, it only takes a few months to become a mortgage agent, at which point they are able to trade in mortgages. This group is usually recruited by franchisors looking to build their business. These agents are not ready to advise anyone on mortgages, but they do and they will.
